Mr. Vignelli created these modernist visual diagrams that were used throughout the New York Subway System from 1972 to 1979. Watch dials feature authentic 70's transit maps.

These watches are hand crafted from various sections taken from an authentic Vignelli Subway Map used in the NY Subway system from 1972 - 1979. These visual subway diagrams have become iconic in and of themselves, now part of the NY MOMA collection. Select location from dials shown.

Italian cognac leather strap with contrast stitching. Mineral crystal, battery operated Swiss movement. Polished stainless steel case back engraved 1972 – 1979 Vignelli NYC Subway Map with Massimo Vignelli signature engraving. Each watch comes gift-boxed with a certificate of authenticity. One year warranty from date of purchase.

Watches have a 40mm stainless steel bezel. Durable leather strap measures 197mm (approx. 7-3/4"), standard for most wrists.

Massimo Vignelli

The subway map design by Massimo Vignelli was published from 1972-1978. He was invited to recreate the map after successfully installing new subway signage. Both projects feature the Helvetica font, which, along with his map, have become modern design icons. A copy hangs in the NY MOMA and the Met. This colorful, abstract map, or "diagram," as described by Massimo, was originally inspired by Henry Beck's 1933 London Underground map. In 2011, Massimo again teamed up with the NY MTA to offer riders The Weekend, an interactive digital map based on his original design.
