In 2008, Tokens & Icons was contacted by Madison Square Garden's controller, who was writing a check for storage in Brooklyn of the retired floor from their 1970 and 1973 NBA Championship teams and said "Please take this off our hands so I never have to write this check again". The floor panels had been stored in a non-temperature-controlled warehouse for many years. Due to hot humid summers and cold dry winters, the finish on the panels was in rough shape. Subsequently, the floor was moved to New Jersey where Tokens & Icons visited this warehouse to hand-select the choicest panels for use in cuff links, pens and bottle openers.
After 5 years of shipping the majority of our production to Madison Square Garden itself, we inquired about how they were using these gifts. Scott O'Neil explained that they were ideal "leave behind" gifts, meaning that after a sales memeber would make a pitch he or she would thank the individual with a gift from their Championship Floor.
Noticing Scott had a plain chrome and glass coffee table in his office, I offered to make one from their Championship Floor if he would use it. He said "sure".
