Shea Stadium opened in 1964 as home to both the New York Jets and New York Mets. The Jets played there for twenty seasons. During that time, the stadium hosted the 1968 AFL Championship in which the Jets defeated the Oakland Raiders, 27-23, and went on to their Super Bowl III win. Shea also hosted the AFL Divisional Playoffs in 1969 and the AFC Wild Card Playoff game in 1981. The Jets' last game at Shea in 1983 was also the last NFL game for Terry Bradshaw, the Pittsburgh Steelers' quaterback. In 1984, the Jets moved to Giants Stadium in New Jersey and, Shea Stadium continued to be the Mets' home until it was closed in 2008.
