Additional Product Information

RFK Stadium, originally D.C. Stadium, opened in 1961 as home to the NFL's Washington Redskins and was the fourth multi-sport facility designated for both baseball and football. In fact, it was the first "cookie-cutter" or "concrete donut" style stadium such that it is perfectly circular and features artifical turf that can withstand the reconfiguration of box seats when transitioning between the baseball and football playing fields. This design became popular in the 1960s and 1970s and was employed by many stadiums including Shea and Busch. The Washington Senators were established and based here the following year, after which they fumbled around in the American League until moving to Texas in 1972. RFK Stadium hosted both the 1959 and 1962 All Star Games. In 1971, the Senators had to forfeit the final game at RFK Stadium when souvenir-seeking fans swarmed the field with two outs in the bottom of the 9th inning. From 2005-2007, the Nationals became the second MLB team to call RFK home before they moved to Nationals Park. For more information, please visit Authentication.
