Authenticity

Each game used artifact we work with is authenticated by the University as game used. The artifacts we source are each accompanied by a certifying document from the University that authenticates the item as game used. The NCAA has enhanced guardrails for use of "player name, image & likeness" and in order to comply, the certifying documents we receive do not reveal the player name and may not even specify the game or the season/year the artifact was used. We want to be respectful of the players and these guidelines so our authentication extends only as far as what the University is willing to share.

Uniform, Helmet & Football Artifacts: Tamper evident hologram sticker affixed to product allows online lookup of University authentication as game used.

Stadium Seats (Pens, Cuff Links & Watches): Authenticated as seating removed from the University stadium via included Certificate of Authenticity.

Periodic cleaning with a silver cloth is recommended.

The Gold Standard

Prior to 2011, dozens of Notre Dame student managers would spray paint the helmets before each game with, legend has it, paint infused with gold flakes from the iconic campus dome. Tokens & Icons works exclusively with these older helmets, setting in sterling to commemorate one of the great collegiate traditions.

Today, the tradition has been kept alive. Although student managers no longer spray paint the helmets themselves, the actual gold flakes collected from the dome when it was re-gilded are still included in the paint that is professionally applied by a Colorado based company.

The 2011 season saw five different shades of gold helmets before the color matched the gold dome close enough to be approved by Notre Dame's head football equipment manager. These gold helmets have gone down in history as some of the most iconic helmets in college football history.
