It took 11 years for Tokens & Icons to become the first licensee of the New York Transit Authority in 1991. Fast forward to today, Tokens continues to produce new styles under license to the MTA, your assurance of authenticity.
The design of the current map was introduced in 1979. Though not geographically accurate, this map includes streets and landmarks allowing users to navigate from subway to above-ground locations. Known as the Tauranac-Hertz map, Michael Hertz Associates created the design and John Tauranac oversaw the transition to this map. While many new editions (featuring city updates, color changes, and temporary themes) have been released, the basic design continues to be used 35 years later. The maps used in this item are from the 1998-2002 editions.
