Additional Product Information
The history of Boston's public transportation system can be traced to the early 19th century with the development of omnibuses - enlarged stagecoaches which made multiple stops along a route instead of only traveling between two distant locations. Within less then a century, Boston continued to evolve - offering horse carriages on rails to boasting one of the leading electric powered railway systems to establishing North America's first subway in 1897. In the early twentieth century, the foundations for the current Red, Green, Orange and Blue Lines were built and the colorful names were officially established in 1965.
